Life as a Digital Marketing Intern – By Maddie

About me

My name is Madison Collins, I am a 20-year-old student currently studying Creative Writing at the University of Essex. I started this marketing internship at Koala Digital to gain experience and knowledge to add to a personal statement for my application to study marketing and management as a master’s degree. I am the disability student rep at the Literature, Film and Theatre Studies department of my university and I am currently working on my final dissertation!

I have always found an interest in marketing and decided I wanted to do a hands-on infiltration of a company to gain a higher understanding of the career before submitting my master’s degree application! My mum being a client of Koala Digital, I’ve always known that Koala Digital was one of the top digital marketing agencies in Colchester, I had always been in and out of the office throughout the years and every time I had a deep interest in the way everything worked.

My hobbies include reading, writing and playing my piano, I am a deeply academic person and enjoy learning new things and expanding my knowledge and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Koala Digital and appreciate the opportunities that this has given me.

My first week

Koala Digital focuses on website design in Colchester and uses SEO to drive traffic to clients’ websites. Having only been here for one week I already feel as if I have learnt so much information about digital marketing agencies. Having so many branches in digital marketing it is fascinating to watch how they all bind together to create amazing success for their customers! Koala Digital has made me feel welcome and I feel as if I can flourish and apply the skills I have learnt from my course into the world of digital marketing.

With a main focus on content creation, particularly writing blogs for websites, I now have a greater understanding of terminology and technicalities that are involved when developing content for websites. My main focus this week has been on content creation for websites, learning how to write from an SEO perspective and using keywords to drive traffic to websites. Each day is different and it is exciting to not only learn about new places and platforms but also to write for them and become a part of their website. I can apply my knowledge of creative writing and merge it with new knowledge of marketing to create new pieces of content and intensify my understanding of the way digital marketing works.

Life as a Digital Marketing Intern

I have thoroughly enjoyed this past week as an intern and appreciate everything that I have been taught and am very appreciative of this opportunity and the doors that it has opened for me. It has made me aspire to have a future in digital marketing agencies and pursue it on a professional level once my master’s degree has been achieved. The team has been very supportive and pleasant, teaching me new skills and information each day and I have felt very welcome and enjoyed each day in this position. The content creation is delightful and learning all the technicalities of the marketing side of writing has piqued my interest massively.

During my time at Koala Digital, I have had the opportunity to test out my skills in content creation and put my knowledge to the test whilst learning new things and putting them into practice. I have grown professionally and personally and consistently feel excited about coming into the office each morning.

Overall Koala Digital is a lovely place to do an internship, as one of the leading digital marketing agencies in Colchester, they are dedicated to their clients and work extremely hard to create success with their website designs, and SEO experience, with years of experience it is a privilege to be able to work alongside them and learn whilst doing so!
