Planning your content with an October 2026 Social Media Content Calendar means one less thing to think about when the month gets busy.
October is officially here. The evenings are getting darker, the jumpers are coming out and there’s a suspicious amount of pumpkin-flavoured everything appearing.
It’s also a brilliant month for social media content.
From smiling and spreadsheets to sloths, questionable texts to your ex and, of course, Halloween, there are plenty of awareness days you can use to add a bit of personality to your social channels.
As always, you don’t need to use every single one. Pick the dates that actually make sense for your business and have some fun with them.
Here are a few of our favourites!
2nd October: World Smile Day 😊
A nice easy one to start the month.
World Smile Day is a great excuse to share something positive with your followers. That could be a brilliant customer review, a recent team achievement, something funny from behind the scenes or simply a photo of the people behind your business.
For service-based businesses in particular, showing the human side of your company can make a big difference on social media.
People like dealing with people, after all.
You could even turn the day over to your customers and ask them to share something that’s made them smile recently. A simple question can be a great way to get people talking in the comments.
If your social channels have become a little too focused on selling, consider this your reminder to mix things up.
17th October: Spreadsheet Day 📊
Now, we know what you’re thinking.
Finally. The big one.
Christmas? Overrated. Birthdays? Forget them. Spreadsheet Day has arrived.
Joking aside, this could actually be a surprisingly useful awareness day for plenty of businesses.
Accountants, bookkeepers, financial advisers, recruitment companies, project managers and anyone else whose working life involves more cells, columns and colour coding than they’d care to admit can have some fun with it.
Share your most satisfying spreadsheet trick. Ask your team whether they’re an Excel genius or completely terrified of formulas. Show off the spreadsheet that keeps your business running behind the scenes.
It’s a good example of why awareness-day content doesn’t always need to be serious. Sometimes a simple post that your audience relates to is exactly what you need.
Just maybe hide the spreadsheet called FINAL-FINAL-v3-ACTUAL-FINAL.xlsx first.
20th October: International Sloth Day 🦥
A day dedicated to sloths?
We’re listening.
Aside from giving everyone an excellent excuse to post a cute sloth, there’s actually a useful marketing lesson hiding in this one.
Social media can sometimes feel like you need to be doing everything, everywhere, all at once.
You don’t.
Trying to post every day on five different platforms usually isn’t the answer, especially if you’re rushing content out just for the sake of being visible.
A realistic, consistent social media plan is far more useful than posting constantly for two weeks, getting completely fed up with it and disappearing for the next three months.
Slow and steady can work rather well.
Although perhaps not quite as slow as an actual sloth.
If planning, creating and scheduling your social content is taking up more time than you have available, our Social Media Content Creation & Management team can take care of it for you. We plan and create content around your business, your audience and your brand, rather than relying on a generic posting schedule.
30th October: National Text Your Ex Day 📱
We have questions.
Who decided we needed a national day for this? What happened? Are they OK?
More importantly: please think before participating.
For businesses, however, National Text Your Ex Day could be a great opportunity for some light-hearted content.
Recruiters could talk about returning to an old employer. Gyms could encourage people to restart the fitness routine they abandoned months ago. Hairdressers could joke about going back to an old hairstyle. Restaurants could ask which discontinued dish customers would bring back.
You could even use it as an excuse to revisit one of your own old social posts and see how much your business has changed.
The trick is finding an angle that makes sense for your brand rather than posting about an awareness day simply because it exists.
As for actually texting your ex?
We’re a digital marketing agency. You’re on your own with that one.
31st October: Halloween 🎃
We couldn’t exactly write an October content calendar without mentioning Halloween.
It’s one of those dates that almost any business can have a bit of fun with.
Decorate the office, share team costumes, run a Halloween competition or give one of your products a spooky makeover.
You could also take the theme in a more useful direction.
What gives your customers nightmares?
For us, it might be a website that takes forever to load, social media accounts that haven’t been updated since 2019 or discovering your business is hiding somewhere on page 10 of Google.
Scary stuff. 👻
A themed post can still be useful and relevant to what you do. In fact, finding a natural link between an awareness day and your expertise is usually much more interesting than simply posting “Happy Halloween” and leaving it there.
Although we fully support the addition of pumpkins.

These are just a few of the dates you’ll find in our October 2026 Social Media Content Calendar.
There are plenty more to choose from, including National Poetry Day UK, World Teacher Day, National Noodle Day, Ada Lovelace Day, National Dictionary Day, National Apple Day, National Pumpkin Day and National Black Cat Day.
There really is an awareness day for everything.
Remember, you don’t need to squeeze your business into every date on the calendar. Choose the ones that fit your brand, your audience or your team and use them as a starting point for creating something genuinely interesting.
A few relevant posts with some thought behind them will always be better than posting for the sake of posting.
